EEOC Proposes Definition of Internet Job Applicants
The rapid growth of Internet recruiting in the
late 1990s and technological ease of sending
resumes challenged employers to manage their
record keeping in these areas. In 2000 a multi-agency
task force, headed by the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission, convened to consider whether supplemental
information about the definition of 'applicant'
should be provided. Three years and many delays
later, there is a proposed definition. Does it fill the bill?

Demographics, Technology, and Globalization
To Shape Future Workforce
Shifting demographic patterns, the growing impact
of technological change, and economic globalization
will shape work in the United States in the
next 10 to 15 years, says a new report by the
RAND Corporation. The study was prepared at
the request of the US Department of Labor to
assist policymakers in identifying possible
trends that might affect the nation's workers
and employers. |

Data Point: According to a first-quarter
survey by TEC International, a San Diego-based
organization of CEOs, about 27% of the CEOs
of small and midsize businesses will be outsourcing
part of their companies' operations overseas
this year, or within the next three years. Manufacturing operations are the most frequently outsourced overseas, followed by IT work.
