Quick Tips for Interview Success
Sacha Cohen

Patrick Lennahan, Director of the Career Center at Roger Williams University, offers the following practical advice for successful interviewing no matter what your experience level:
  • Remember that people hire people. Beyond whatever experience and training any candidate has, each is an individual human being.
  • Be careful how you come across as a person.
  • Be yourself always, but put your best foot forward.
  • Don't try to play a role in the application process or you may get hired under the presumption that you are a different person than you really are.
  • Get hired only for who you are; otherwise, after you start a job, you may be surprised to find that you don't fit into the workgroup.
  • Do your homework; gather information beforehand.
  • Don't waste your time or theirs if you're not qualified.
  • Clearly articulate your potential contributions; be a problem solver.
  • Draw a clear link between what you bring and what they need.
  • Be honest about what attracts you to the job/company.
  • Project your true and likable personality.
  • Be prepared for the expected scenario; don't try to wing it in the interview.
