Self-Assessment Web sites
JobSpectrum has information on using online
career assessments but bear in mind that they
vary considerably in terms of interactivity, what
they measure, what kinds of results they provide,
and whether they are really cost-free. (If an
online assessment turns up a career possibility
that you don't think is remotely suited to you,
feel free to disregard it.) Here are some sites
to investigate:
Campbell
Interest & Skill Survey from U.S. News
& World Report, NCS Assessments, and author
David Campbell, Ph.D. When you complete this 320-question
survey, your results will be compared to the results
of people who are successfully employed in the
fields you're interested in. Nearly 60 occupations
are covered in your personalized report. Cost:
$17.95.
Keirsey Temperament
Sorter. This interactive site explains the
16 various personality types and lets you take
the Keirsey Character Sorter or the Keirsey Temperament
Sorter. Results are provided in Myers Briggs Type
Indicator (MBTI) language. Cost: free.
Personality
Page. This 60-question assessment is based
on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a well-known
test indicating 16 personality types. MBTI isn't
given online, but this personality questionnaire
will give you a lengthy summary about your type.
Cost: $5.
Personality
Online. Offers several tests, including a
70-question Keirsey Temperament Sorter, the "Enneagram,"
which measures personality on nine different scales,
and a "Personality Profile," which measures
14 profiles or types. Cost: free.
